John is founding director of the Academy of Executive Coaching.
As Master Executive Coach, John works with many executives in major companies
and firms as well as training and supervising senior internal and independent
coaches. It is the experience of reaching this level after 15 years in the
profession that has led him to provide a direct route for others to develop the
coaching mastery.
Therapy/Psychology Background:
John is a UKCP registered psychotherapist with a background of 25 years as a
Gestalt therapist working with a wide range of people and conditions.
He taught for 15 years on the Masters in psychotherapy course at the Gestalt
Centre London and as a senior professional, presented papers at international
conferences and appeared on radio and television.
Business Background:
Having set up and run a couple of small businesses, John became Managing
Director of the Gestalt Centre in 1989. He has been responsible for steering
through professional registration and MA University accreditation as well as the
financial, marketing and strategic growth of the Company to achieve
international recognition.
Over the last two years, due to radically changing market conditions, he has
been leading the Board through a major strategic change initiative. The support
of external consultants, a business coach and undertaking the IoD Diploma in
Company Direction have been significant to its on-going success. John is in the
process of preparing this work to achieve Chartered Director status through the
IoD.
Performance Coaching Background:
His first experience of having to coach was in 1975 with violent adolescent
boys as a woodwork teacher. John created an innovative wood carving programme to
help each boy develop confidence in their capability. Later, as a trainer and
supervisor of counsellors and therapists, John developed a fine art in coaching
to hone practitioner skills. In 1994 he created a Gestalt in Organisations
course for experienced consultants to learn Gestalt process consulting skills.
This is an experiential programme with a coaching model of learning that is very
highly regarded. He is currently involved in a major Partner development
programme in Eastern Europe that is based on action learning and coaching.

As with other executives and coaches, John's family is a great support and

Coaching and mentoring - Key Players
Donald is not only one of the leading Occupational Psychologists in the United
Kingdom, he is also probably one of the best known. Having enjoyed a professional career which saw
him operate as the Chief Psychologist to the Civil Service Commission and as one of the leading
consultants at Ashridge, Donald has represented his profession in numerous international fora.
Donald's preparation, however, started much earlier and well before he decided to study psychology.
In his early life Donald worked with Cable and Wireless and as a technician spent many a happy hour in
the furthest flung reaches of the globe. The difficulties of communication intrigued Donald as did
leadership across cultural boundaries and both came together to provide one or two early challenges as
Donald moved through the Caribbean and South America.
Donald returned to the United Kingdom, to a degree in psychology and an eventual Doctorate at Brunel
University, thus adding academic spice to a leadership mix developed well and truly in the international arena.
For the clients of the Change Partnership Donald is both Occupational Psychologist and executive coach,
bringing his extensive practical and academic wisdom to bear. For the Change Partnership, Donald is the
internal coach: the expert who keeps the business coaches on their toes.
He is active in the British Psychological Society, having chaired the committee on test standards,
and is an external examiner and mentor for those seeking chartered psychologist status.
Donald is a highly accomplished musician and, with his wife and family, a committed francophile.
