Spotlight on Sheila Reynolds
Facts and figures:
I live in a sleepy, somewhat eccentric country town in Somerset with three mad cats and a madder man-friend.
The serious stuff
Why did you decide to become a coach / mentor?
I saw horses whose lives were made uncomfortable by the poor understanding and communication qualities of their riders and have always tried to improve this where I could.
How did you get into coaching / mentoring?
Through my love of horses which led me to work with them
What is your greatest coaching / mentoring achievement (or should we ask what's the greatest achievement of one of your clients?)
Arabella Ralston Saul, with whom I worked for four years, was invited to test for the British Junior Three Day Event Team in their trials at Windsor
How would your clients describe you?
"Mad as a Brush" was one review!
What are your core values and principles?
KISS - 'Keep It Simple, Stupid'. And make it fun without losing sight of the fact that success always involves hard work and if you choose to lie, you are only ever lying to yourself.
How has coaching/mentoring assisted your career / life development?
You are always learning which makes it impossible for you to become complacent about, or bored with, life.
The lighter side of life
What do you do when you're not working - hobbies, interests, clubs etc?
I'm studying for a Philosophy degree with the Open University (I'll get it with my pension at my current rate of progress). I spend time with my friends; time alone (walking/cycling) and (the most precious of all) time with horses - other people's, I can't afford one of my own.
Who / what makes you laugh?
Billy Connolly and almost everything apart from cruelty and injustice.
How would your friends and/or family describe you?
A pain in the arse, probably.
What else do want to achieve in your life or work?
The more you do as a coach and a trainer, the more you realise that you have everything to achieve and know nothing
Any claims to fame?
No, in the great scheme of things, we are really too microscopic and transient to think like that
What's the most challenging thing you've ever done?
It involved nineteen trainees, one working PC and a training system that kept crashing!
What's the funniest thing that's ever happened to you?
It involved nineteen trainees, one working PC and a training system that kept crashing!
Who would you like to be stuck in a lift with - and why?
The Dali Lama - I would like to know from where he gets his seeming sense of certainty.
What makes you who you are?
Laughter
Anything else you'd like to tell us?
No, you must be bored almost to death by now
