Alan Coughtrey
Alan is a consulting director with a leading e-commerce solutions
developer working for corporate customers and well funded
start-ups, principally in the business-to-business arena.
In his day to day work, Alan advises companies on topics
of network economics and works with clients to develop new
business models with which to 'engage' the Internet. His research
interests include the application of Real Options theory to
the design of IT projects. Alan also has a particular interest
in the development of strategy in new companies and those
pursuing innovations as both a practical matter and as the
foundation for a PhD topic.
The Network is indebted to Alan for his advice and mentoring
in the areas of 'traditional' business management and e-business
Alan has a Diploma in Management for which he focused on
the management of change. He also has an MBA from the highly
regarded London Business School and was an IEP student with
University of California at Berkeley where he focused on high
technology markets in general and the development of e-commerce
in particular.
Originally trained in systems analysis and engineering, Alan
has fifteen years IT and telecommunications industry experience
holding a variety of senior technical, commercial and general
management posts with companies including Olivetti-AT&T, Ungermann-Bass
and HAL. He has managed the achievement of a large number of
leading edge business and technical projects in that time
and consulted with clients among the leading UK and US firms
Hobbies include mountain climbing (including falling down
them in an unplanned fashion!), mountain biking and classical
history, particularly Roman military and political strategy;
