Alan Coughtrey

Alan Coughtrey

Alan is a consulting director with a leading e-commerce solutions developer working for corporate customers and well funded start-ups, principally in the business-to-business arena.

In his day to day work, Alan advises companies on topics of network economics and works with clients to develop new business models with which to 'engage' the Internet. His research interests include the application of Real Options theory to the design of IT projects. Alan also has a particular interest in the development of strategy in new companies and those pursuing innovations as both a practical matter and as the foundation for a PhD topic.

The Network is indebted to Alan for his advice and mentoring in the areas of 'traditional' business management and e-business

Alan has a Diploma in Management for which he focused on the management of change. He also has an MBA from the highly regarded London Business School and was an IEP student with University of California at Berkeley where he focused on high technology markets in general and the development of e-commerce in particular.

Originally trained in systems analysis and engineering, Alan has fifteen years IT and telecommunications industry experience holding a variety of senior technical, commercial and general management posts with companies including Olivetti-AT&T, Ungermann-Bass and HAL. He has managed the achievement of a large number of leading edge business and technical projects in that time and consulted with clients among the leading UK and US firms

Hobbies include mountain climbing (including falling down them in an unplanned fashion!), mountain biking and classical history, particularly Roman military and political strategy; ask for book recommendations!
